THE QUERY CLUB

 This is my truth, tell me yours. Nye Bevan

Come and join our Query club.  A discussion of current affairs, started by you or by us.

The Robert Owen Group has been in existence in it`s various manifestations for some thirty two years.  The spread of activities of the various societies within the Robert Owen Group has been extensive, as has been the thirty million pounds of inward investment brought  into the Marches sub region.

The members decided some twenty three years ago that in order to promote Socratic discussion which would encourage ideas for a more equitable world The Query Club would be established.  This took the form of a journal, published quarterly, and posted out to members.  By 2012 with the advent of the Robert Owen Academy collective energies were directed elsewhere.

Wind forward to 2023 and we live in a different world with pressing demands and intense social pressures.  So we are launching again The Query Club as part of the Marches Hive website.

The original Query club was founded in 1921 in Tredegar by Aneurin Bevan, his brother Billy and Walter Conway.  The club was a forum for developing radical ideas as well as collecting money for those in need.  It is said that many of the policies of the reforming 1945 Labour Party had their genesis in the discussions within the Query Club.

We launch today and invite your contributions.  Perhaps our initial thoughts might be guided by a quote by Nye Bevan;

“IF FREEDOM IS TO BE SAVED AND ENLARGED, POVERTY MUST BE ENDED.  THERE IS NO OTHER SOLUTION.”
